I'd like thank everyone who sold hoagies and who came out to help with
the hoagie building today at Lions Lake. In just under 4 hours we got
set up, cranked out nearly 400 hoagies, and cleaned up. Everyone did
a fantastic job working together and getting the job done, and I'm
pleased to tell you that we far exceeded the profits that I had
anticipated. After paying for materials and the facility, the troop
as a whole made $1260. Karen will be working out the scout accounts
for scouts who sold hoagies and will have the exact amount for each
scout available soon.
Thanks again!
Here are the results from the Klondike, which were received today.
Mixed:
Beaver - 2nd
Eagle - 8th
Venture:
Panther - 6th
Congratulations to the patrols for their effort and determination in the events.
Just wanted to let everyone know that the HOAGIE SALE IS STILL ON. We
will be meeting at Lions Lake Park on Sunday morning at 9:00AM to get started
right away at making our 340+ hoagies. We will be done making hoagies no
later than noon, after which the each Scout can fan out to deliver the
orders that he took.
Since its bound to be snowy and only a small handful could make it out
to do the prep work, we WILL NOT be doing prep work at the church on
Saturday.
Our annual ski trip is rapidly approaching! We will be heading up to
Jack Frost Mountain on Sunday, January 10th for a day of skiing,
snowboarding, and/or tubing! The cost for a ski pass/equipment
rental/a free lesson is a mere $33 for the whole day! Helmet rentals
(a helmet is required for everyone under 18 and highly recommended for
everyone else) are $11 for the day! You will never see a cheaper day
of skiing. Best of all, family, friends, and alumni are all invited
to join us for the same cheap rate. Don't like skiing? Come tubing,
it's only $25 for three hours.
We will be meeting at the shed at 6 AM that Sunday to carpool up to
Jack Frost Mountain. Please eat breakfast before you come and either
pack a lunch for yourself or bring money to buy one at the ski lodge
(suggested amount: $20, food is expensive!). We will return by
dinnertime on Sunday night.
Our safety meeting takes place on Wednesday, January 6 at 7 PM.
Troop 48 recently shared in the prestigious Legion of Honor Award given by the Four Chaplains Memorial Foundation. This award was presented to the volunteers of the Battleship New Jersey
who work to restore this national treasure. This marks the very first time the award was given to a group instead of an individual. Troop
48 is proud to have held 3-4 work parties a year aboard the USS New Jersey for almost a decade, as well as conducting numerous Eagle Projects aboard the most decorated ship in United States history, and will continue to do so for many years to come. Among the past reciepients of this award are "Presidents Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, James Carter, and Ronald Reagan", as well as "Bob Hope, John Glenn, Martha Raye, James Michener, Marian Anderson, C. Everett Koop, Tommy Lasorda and Shirley Chisholm as well as deserving military personnel, veterans, and civilians from all walks of life." Troop 48 would like to thank Mr. Harry Ruhle, head of volunteers over at the
battleship, both for having us included in this honor and presenting us with both a certificate as well as the inspiring story of the Four Chaplains at our recent Court of Honor.
