Today is Monday, September 06, 2010
Thank you to all of the Scouts and leaders who helped out with the MS
150 rest stop link this weekend!
A good time was had by all while helping to raise money for an
excellent cause. Pictures are now available in the pictures section!
Next trip: Canoeing the Wading River, October 23-25th!
The annual Troop 48 Yard Sale is THIS SATURDAY from 8 AM until 1 PM in
the parking lot at Holy Communion Church on Rt 73 in Berlin! This
event is RAIN OR SHINE, and all proceeds benefit Troop 48! We are in
need of Scout and adult volunteers to help sort yard sale stuff on
Friday night, 10/9 from 6:30 PM until 9 PM (pizza will be supplied for
dinner) and on Saturday from 7 AM until 2 PM. We will also continue
to accept donations of things to sell right up until the morning of
the yard sale! Thank you in advance for your help!
Following troop elections on Wednesday night, here is the leadership
of Troop 48 for the 2009-2010 year:
Senior Patrol Leader - Aaron K.
Assistant Senior Patrol Leader - Dan S.
Troop Guide - Steven H.
Quartermaster - Dan B.
Patrol Leaders - Evan M. & Sean G.
Assistant Patrol Leaders - Erik L & Nick M.
Those that still need leadership positions, please see me, as we are
in need of Den Chiefs, Scribes, a Troop Historian, and other leaders.
Patrols will be organized (including the splitting and tagging of all
patrol gear and the election of a patrol quartermaster for each
patrol) at the Leader's Meeting next Wednesday, September 30th.
The Batona Trail trip went well, with the hikers getting a good number
of miles in, the backpackers surviving their first backpacking
experience, and Ong's Hat being discovered. Many thanks to Mike
Gallagher and Rich Zeigler for helping out with the trip, as well as
to the National Forestry Service for letting the troop check out their
headquarters.
Our next trip is the MS 150 City-to-Shore Bike Ride from October 2nd
to 4th, where the troop helps man a rest station for the 7,000 people
who make the 150 mile trek to raise the funds to cure multiple
sclerosis. We will spend Saturday morning and afternoon running the
rest stop, then head down to Ocean City where the finish line for the
bikers (including Troop 48's own Cindy Johnson and Ed Madden) is,
heading over to the volunteers dinner, and then exploring the
boardwalk. Sunday morning we will explore the "forgotten town" of
Batsto, NJ, once a major supplier of munitions to the Continental Army
during the War for Independence, now a state park filled with historic
buildings. The cost for this trip is a recession busting $10 per
Scout.
Permission slips are available at the meetings or on this website in
the September edition of the newsletter.
In September, Troop 48 will resume its regular school-year schedule
with meetings on each Wednesday night from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm.
Leader's meetings will be held on the last Wednesday of each month.
The troop will begin this schedule on Wednesday, September 2nd.
The troop summer schedule is now in effect for Wednesday meetings.
While there are no formal meetings over the summer, Scouts are welcome
to show up on almost any Wednesday night at 7 pm to work on
advancements and merit badges, or to help prepare the troop equipment
for the summer trip. If you want to check to see if anyone will be
there, or have any questions, please call or e-mail Mike McCormick at
michaelmccormick26@gmail.com or (856) 287-2155.
Also, there is still time to go on the summer trip to D.A.R. State
Park in Vermont this summer! We currently have nine scouts going, but
can accommodate a few more. The trip is from Saturday, August 8th
until August 14th and will include canoeing Lake Champlain, tubing the
Ausable Chasm, hiking up Mt Ellen,
exploring Fort Ticonderoga, and
visiting Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory.
The cost is $220 per Scout for the entire week, and good times will be
had. If you are interested in having your son attend, please contact
Mike McCormick.
